AI Use Disclosure
How AI-assisted translation, writing improvement, and transcription work in Byleron Translate.
Last updated: 10 September 2026AI runs only when you start a task
The workspace does not send source material to an AI provider merely because you sign in or open a page. AI processing begins when you intentionally start a translation, writing-improvement, or audio-transcription task.
What may be sent when you use AI
The exact scope depends on the task. It can include pasted text, extracted document text, audio, language and style settings, discipline and document context, and preferred terminology needed to prepare the requested output. For transcription, audio from the selected recording is processed to create the requested transcript. The workspace uses the OpenAI API for these operations.
A request uses the material you deliberately submit for that task and does not independently browse other history items. Avoid sending direct identifiers, confidential material, or content that you do not have an appropriate right to process with an external AI provider.
What AI can and cannot do
AI can translate source text, improve academic prose, apply preferred terminology, and create transcripts. Protective checks reduce accidental changes to citations, numbers, links, references, and locked terms, but they cannot guarantee a perfect result.
AI output can be incomplete, inaccurate, biased, or unsuitable for a discipline or publication. It is not a substitute for author review, professional translation, legal advice, ethics review, or specialist judgement.
Your responsibilities
- Review every translation, transcript, terminology choice, quotation, number, citation, and reference before relying on it.
- Compare important passages with the source and correct language that changes meaning, certainty, attribution, or disciplinary usage.
- Use de-identified material where your study, consent materials, ethics approval, or institutional policy require it.
- Disclose AI use where your institution, funder, publisher, client, or professional rules require it.
Languages and data minimisation
Choose the correct source and target languages, provide only the material needed for the task, and use preferred terminology only where it is necessary. Document and audio tasks process the uploaded source; pasted-text tasks process the text entered into the workspace.
